Dear Parents and Guardians,
As winter approaches, we want to remind families of our district’s procedures for inclement weather.
When winter weather is expected, road conditions are checked by 6:00 a.m., and we will decide as early as possible whether school will be in session. If school must be closed, parents will be notified by email and text. We will also announce cancellations on the following stations:
- Radio: KTXY Y107 (106.9 FM), KJMO (100.1 FM), KCLR (99.3 FM), KPLA (101.5 FM), KATI (94.3 FM), KLIK (1240 AM / 104.1 FM)
- TV: KRCG 13, KMIZ 17, KOMU 8
If weather conditions worsen during the day, early dismissal may be necessary. This will only occur in serious situations. Families should have a plan for children arriving home earlier than usual.
Two-Hour Late Start Procedures
There may also be times when we announce a two-hour late start to allow for safer travel. When this occurs:
- Announcements will be made by 9:00 p.m. the night before.
- Buses will run two hours later than their normal pickup times.
- School buildings and classes will begin two hours later than usual.
- Breakfast will not be served.
- The ECC bus will not run.
Even when school is in session, some bus routes may be affected. Drivers will determine if all parts of their route are safe to travel and will notify families of any temporary changes when possible.
If we are able to make a closure decision the evening before, we will notify families by email and text, followed by updates to the radio and TV stations listed above.
Thank you for helping us keep students safe during winter weather.
Sincerely,
Cole R-5 School District
